Medicated Treatment of ADHD

ADHD Medication

The most common way of treating ADHD is through a doctor prescribed, typically amphetamine-based drug. It has been found that the stimulation provided by the medicine actually has a 'calming' affect on those dealing with ADHD. For many children, ADHD medications reduce hyperactivity and impulsivity - which ultimately improves their ability to focus, work and be a better student. Ask your doctor about the various options available to treat ADHD, depending on your situation, it may not be necessary.

Common ADHD Medications Prescribed In The US

Adderall (amphetamine)

Adderall XR (amphetamine) - extended release

Concerta (methylphenidate) - long acting

Daytrana (methylphenidate patch)

Desoxyn (methamphetamine hydrochloride)

Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine)

Dextrostat (dextroamphetamine)

Focalin (dexmethylphenidate)

Focalin XR (dexmethylphenidate) - extended release

Ritalin (methylphenidate)

Ritalin SR (methylphenidate) - extended release

Ritalin LA (methylphenidate) - long acting

Strattera (atomoxetine)

Vyvanse (lisdex amfetamine dimesylate)

Hi Tom, this is good information, though it might be best that when folks are diagnosed with ADHD or even feel that they have ADHD, they might try ADHD coaching first. It's proven to work well! You can visit my site at http://OneFocusTotalSuccess for more information, if you're interested in adding a resource for that. Always happy to provide a free consultation.
